Firefighters overwhelmingly backed strike action
FROM 5 December 2022 to 30 January.2023, the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) ran a strike action ballet, under the title:- "#FairPayorFireStrike." The results of this ballet were announced on 1 February 2023, with an overall turnout of 73% of its members, of whom 88% voted to strike. As a result, The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has given the Government 10 days to respond. It is now expected that we will very soon see Firefighters on the picket lines, joining the ever-growing numbers now on strike within the public sector.

The FBU said:- "It is shocking to think both firefighters' and control staff were called:- ‘keyworkers’ during the Pandemic, but they now face another significant cut to their real wages. Many of our members are increasingly struggling to pay their mortgage or rent. Many are facing choosing between putting food on the table or switching on the heating. This situation must stop. The numbers speak for themselves. After more than a decade of falling pay, firefighters have voted by an overwhelming margin for strike action. We do not want to strike, but we now feel we are not being treated fairly. No more insulting pay offers, we want a real solution to this problem and fast."
