Wirral Wave Radio celebrates 6th Birthday
THIS weekend (26 / 27 July 2025) marks a major milestone for Wirral Wave Radio, as the forward thinking community radio station celebrates 6 years on air. Run entirely on passion, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to the local community, the station has grown from a small idea into a vibrant and diverse platform powered by volunteers.
Founded and operated by Paul Harris, alongside his daughter Amanda Harris and with David Murrell, as Non Executive Director, Wirral Wave Radio has become a vital voice for the Wirral area. From its humble home on Hemingford Street, Birkenhead, just a stone’s throw from the Birkenhead Bus Station, the station has cultivated a loyal listenership with its rich mix of programming. With 26 shows on rotation, Wirral Wave Radio offers something for everyone, and you can listen on the internet 24/7 globally. Whether you’re tuning in for insightful talk shows, upbeat music segments, lively chats about beer, thoughtful discussions on wellness, or mouthwatering explorations of local food, there’s a unique, personal voice behind every mic. The station is also home to La Vida Liverpool Live; the show from multi award winning local magazine La Vida Liverpool that’s also just celebrated its 7th birthday. On this thought provoking show, the magazine’s owner Justin Hopper interviews the many wonderful people, business owners, charities, and creatives that La Vida promotes. Behind the scenes, Paul Harris is the engine keeping it all running. Known for his tireless dedication, Paul devotes countless hours to producing, editing, mentoring, and making sure every show sounds polished and professional. The station operates as a Community Interest Company (CIC), ensuring its primary focus remains on public benefit rather than profit. One of Wirral Wave Radio’s standout contributions is its role in education and development. The station actively partners with institutions like:- Liverpool Hope University, Wirral Met College, and Liverpool John Moores University to offer work experience opportunities to students. Aspiring broadcasters, producers, and media students get hands on experience in a real world environment, learning everything from mixing and mastering to show planning and live presentation. The sense of community extends to the presenters themselves, who receive strong support from the station’s core team. Whether it’s technical training, editing guidance, or simply a welcoming environment, Wirral Wave Radio ensures every voice has the tools and confidence to be heard. As Wirral Wave Radio celebrates its 6th incredible year, it stands as a shining example of what passion, teamwork, and local pride can achieve. Here’s to the voices of Merseyside, and many more years of broadcasting from the heart of the Wirral. COMMENTS (0)
