ON 27 February 2025, a verdict was reached at Liverpool Crown Court, following a week long trial of 81 year old, George Welsh, from Ffynnongroyw, near Holywell, North Wales, looking at child sex offences.

Despite denying the offences, he was  of all 14 offences including:- indecent assault on a boy under 16 years and gross indecency on a boy under 14 years. He has now been jailed for 8 years after being found guilty of 14 child sex offences.

The Court was told during the trial that Welsh's offending was all committed against one boy he had 1st assaulted while living in Birkenhead in the 1980's. It was also told that the victim asked him to stop, but Welsh laughed it off and continued his offending for a number of years, taking the victim to his home and sexually abusing him.

Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson said:- "Merseyside Police have been able to prove Welsh's sickening behaviour and he will now spend a significant amount of time in prison. Welsh denied the offences, despite the clear evidence of his guilt. This led to a week long trial forcing his victim and family to go through this added ordeal in order for them to get justice. This prosecution demonstrates Merseyside Police’s commitment to protecting children from sexual abuse and from those who seek to harm them.  We have specialist officers who investigate such crimes and provide full support to victims and their families.
