LIVERPOOL City Region Combined Authority has launched The Good Growth Guidelines to help businesses understand how to achieve good growth.

The pioneering Good Growth Guidelines offer practical advice for any business looking to implement ethical practices across 5 core areas:- culture, recruitment, pay, purchasing and environmental impact.

Good Growth is about increasing profit in a way which improves our relationships with nature, partners, suppliers, customers, employees, and our communities, through the organising principle of purpose.

The guidelines aim to help business leaders to understand:-

  • How to improve their workplace culture

  • How to implement inclusive hiring practices

  • How to fairly improve workers’ pay

  • How to holistically consider their supply chain

  • How to increase environmental awareness and encourage positive behaviours

Councillor Mike Wharton, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Business, Investment and Trade said:- “The Good Growth Guidelines offer practical, actionable guidance to help businesses implement ethical practices that not only enhance profitability, but also contribute positively to our environment, support social inclusion and fairness, and foster long-term resilience.  Businesses are the backbone of the Liverpool City Region’s economy, and by embracing these principles, they can help drive growth that benefits everyone in our City region, fostering fairness, sustainability, and opportunities for all.”

The guidelines were created in response to the Good Growth series of events delivered in partnership with the Combined Authority’s business support service Growth Platform and Matchstick Creative in 2023. The series looked to engage the local business community in “good growth” principles such as net zero, diversity & inclusion, fundraising & investment, purpose-driven business and start-up culture. Attendees of the events were keen to implement these principles into their businesses but were unsure how to do it. Developing the Good Growth Guidelines was a way to offer practical guidance to help businesses of all sizes embrace these ethical practices.

The guidelines can be downloaded from the Growth Platform website.
