DATA on the recent industrial action by Junior Doctors within NHS England has seen a cumulative total of:- 1,424,269 acute inpatient and outpatient appointments rescheduled.

BMA Junior Doctors took action, from:- 7 am, on:- Saturday, 24 February, to:- 11:59 am, on:- Wednesday, 28 February 2024. HCSA junior doctor members took action from:- 6:59 am, on Saturday, 24 February 2024, until shifts starting after:- 7 am, on:- Thursday, 29 February 2024.

Last week's latest action saw 91,048 inpatient and outpatient appointments rescheduled, and 23,760 staff were absent from work due to strikes at the peak of the action.

Health and Social Care Secretary, Victoria Atkins, said:- "The impact of strikes on patients cannot be overstated, with thousands more patients suffering delays to vital treatment as a direct result. I want to see NHS staff treating the patients who need their care, not standing on picket lines. I'm extremely grateful to all the frontline workers who provided vital cover to safeguard patient care throughout these strikes, and to NHS leaders for their dedication to protecting urgent and emergency care, including time critical services like cancer surgery. Now that this latest round of industrial action is over, I once again urge the BMA Junior Doctors’ Committee to demonstrate they have reasonable expectations so we can come back to the negotiating table to find a fair deal that works for the NHS, Doctors, and patients."
