Southport celebrates Chinese New Year
THE Chinese New Year is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture, and in Southport, the occasion has been traditionally celebrated by Chinese Restaurants. This year was no exception to this, and both the Empire Restaurant and New China City held celebrations on:- 9 February 2024. The Eve of the Year 4722 on the Lunar Calendar.
These events are on a far smaller scale than those in Liverpool, but just as important to the local Chinese community in Southport, as they are to any community who celebrates the start of a New Year on the Lunar Calendar. Sadly, this year, the celebrations had to be scaled down, much to the disappointment of the residents in Southport and tourists who come out to see them. This was due to new issues caused by traffic control problems putting on the free public display, outside the venues. The worst affected was the most popular location, the Empire, due to the high volume of traffic on Nevill Street, in Southport's Town Center. But, what took place inside was fantastic, as was what was able to take place outside, on the night. We will have our full coverage within our next issue of Southport Reporter of both outdoor shows, and also the show inside the Empire Restaurant. If you want to find out more information about Chinese New Year Festivities that will be held in Liverpool over the weekend, we have a report on our Southport Reporter site, that you can access now by clicking on here. It also has some very interesting facts about the Lunar Calendar and Chinese New Year. COMMENTS (0)
