ON Saturday, 5 August 2023, the Friends of King's Gardens are holding a:- 'Family Fun Day,' from:- 12 noon to 4pn. The event is raising money for new plants etc, for the community garden within Kings Gardens. This event also aims to raise awareness of the work done by the Friends of King's Gardens, and the group also hopes it will help them find new volunteers.
Spokesperson Julie Rudge, has told us that this event will see it playing host to:- "donkeys, a magician, bouncy castle, face painter and games for the kids." She added that:- "We hope to also have a tea tent and craft stalls selling:- soaps, jewellery, toys, pet stuff, alphabet letters, handmade crafts, crayons, sweets, and Eclectic workshop."
Providing a soundtrack for the event will be Heartbeat Radio.
Background about King's Gardens:-
King's Gardens is a 17-acre garden located on the seaward side of Southport's Town Centre, on Promenade Road, (PR81QU). The area is well known for being one of Southport's many iconic parks. If you do not know about King's Gardens on Southport, they were made at the side of the 1½ miles, man-made lake, in 1887, when the Marine Lake was formed. The Gardens now host some brilliant events, including outdoor cinema nights and activities like this.10 years since the area was revamped and the area's many historic Victorian shelters and bridges were restored, thanks to funding from the EU and the Heritage Lottery Fund. The area also:- Lakeside Miniature Railway, a Model Village, a new outdoor children's playground, picturesque walks, bowling greens, cycle paths, boating activities., amusements, and also Cafe, Bar, and Coffee Shop.
