Liverpool Pancake Race 2026
By Newsroom
Events  |  Tue - February 17, 2026 11:25 pm  |  Article Hits:168  |  A+ | a-
THE Liverpool BID Company held the Liverpool Pancake Race 2026 on:- Shrove Tuesday, 17 February 2026, within gardens of:- Liverpool Parish Church, St Nicholas. This event sees some of Liverpool's Top Chefs stack up, as they have to complete laps of the Churchyard whilst flipping pancakes.

The 'strict' rules of the race are simple and require the pancake to be thick enough to withstand the outdoors, yet light enough to be flipped cleanly while running, and must not fall from the pan. There can be no interference of any other chefs' pancakes, or their running. All runners must do all the tasks and get around the course as fast as they can as they complete laps of the garden while flipping a pancake.

This tradition of pancake racing within Liverpool slowlly declined in popularity and ended in the 1980's, but the City of Liverpool's Pancake Day Race was revived in Liverpool in the mid 2000's and has run again ever since...

The origin of pancakes lies within the tradition of using up remaining fat and dairy products before:- 'fasting' began in Lent.
