Young People Invited to Take Part in National Nature Poetry Project
LIVERPOOL'S Theatre in the Rough is pleased to announce the launch of Wild Words, a nationwide poetry initiative inviting young people to engage with nature through verse, supported by Save the Children UK and The Hays Travel Foundation.website.
Can you imagine writing a poem with a tree, a river, or even the weather? Well, that’s the Wild Words challenge. We want young people to build deeper bonds with the living world by letting nature become their writing partner.
Chris Fittock, Director of Theatre in the Rough, said:- ‘At a time of environmental challenge, the arts can really help us understand our place in the world. But rather than observing nature from a distance, Wild Words asks us to think of natural elements as our creative partners. In that way, we can start to give voice to our interconnectedness and shared futures’.
The top 50 poems submitted to Wild Words will be published in a new eBook anthology. In addition, all entries will be showcased on Theatre in the Rough’s website and social media channels. Resource sheets are available online to help inspire and guide writers on their creative journey.
Schools and youth groups from across the UK are encouraged to participate, and help us create a poetic map of our special local landscapes.
The submission deadline is 19 November 2023. An application form and more information can be found by going to this
