HM Coastguard Crosby on Bank Holiday Sunday had:– "1 of Those Days…"

In am public statement the Merseyside based team has said:- "What started as a planned Local Knowledge Patrol (LKP) quickly turned into 1 of the busiest operational days we’ve had in a while for the team at HM Coastguard Crosby. The day began speaking with families and children about staying safe around the coast and water, alongside handing out HM Coastguard safety stickers to younger visitors. Not long after, the operational tempo quickly increased with our first tasking - a HLS (Helicopter Landing Site) at Joe Stone playing fields Aintree.  What followed during a very hot Sunday on the Sefton coastline was very dynamic operationally, the team dealt with 9 (YES 9!) separate incidents, supported by 4 taskings from Holyhead Coastguard Operations Centre, alongside valuable assistance from our colleagues at the RNLI."

The team went on to say:- "From casualties stuck in soft mud between Crosby and Hightown, to multiple people cut off by the tide around the beach, the team were kept constantly moving throughout the day. A huge thank you goes to:-
  • Holyhead Coastguard Operations Centre for the continued tasking support throughout the day.

  • RNLI lifeguards and crews for their teamwork on scene.

  • Members of the public who acted responsibly when directed by our Coastguard Rescue Officers.
And of course, no mention of the day would be complete without Station Officer Pete keeping team morale high between jobs with his now.signature chicken, chorizo and feta salad, rapidly eaten in the gaps between callouts before the next pager activation!"

They continued saying:- " Despite the heat and pace of the day, the team still finished with the usual clean down, equipment checks and vehicle reset to ensure we remain fully operational and ready for the next call. This is exactly why we carry out regular LKPs; checking access points, terrain changes, tide risks and local hazards; so when the calls come in, crews are ready to respond quickly and safely."

The Coastguard have want to remind visitors and locals visiting the coast during the warm weather to do ghe following:-
  • Check tide times before heading out.

  • Carry a means of calling for help.

  • Avoid mud and unknown tidal channels.

  • Keep an eye on changing coastal conditions.

  • Keep children within eyesight at all times.
In a coastal emergency call:- 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
