Just read the news I'm in Cambridge. So sad that Laurie has passed, he will be missed. I remember when he took over from the original owner back in the late 70's. I also remember books sent out with brown paper & string. In the winter they had real wood fires and if you were looking for 'that book' they could always find a seller for you. R.I.P Laurie, time to turn the page.

How very sad, what a wonderful place and a lovely man, and lovely staff. Always remember the open fire not to mention the mince pies at Christmas. I wonder what will happen to the shop now, I hope it keeps going, in this world of instant everything and little courtesy, it was a shining light. Rest in peace Laurie and thank you for all the years you brought us such joy.

Lovely place, so many memories of the open fires and the brown paper packages tied up with string. As a child this was a day out from Prescot. Then continued to take my own children there, up the stairs on the bean bags. I hope they keep it going it's such an institution and an inspiration. x
