THOUSANDS of cyclists took to the streets to raise a staggering £93,000 for vital cancer research, as part of the Liverpool Chester Liverpool (LCL) Bike Ride.

Organised by North West Cancer Research, the event took place on:- Sunday, 5 July 2026, with riders of all abilities saddling up to take on a choice of 5 routes.

For more than 30 years, the Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride has been a staple in the North West's events calendar, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for local charities.

Following its cancellation in 2024 after the previous operator entered administration, North West Cancer Research stepped in to revive the event, ensuring its future for cyclists and supporters across the Region.

This year’s LCL Bike Ride has raised more than £93,000 for North West Cancer Research, surpassing last year’s fundraising total.

Sponsored by Home Bargains, Princes and Oliver & Co., the event featured five routes designed to suit every level of cyclist, from a five-mile family-friendly tunnel ride to the challenging 100-mile route, with riders coming together to support life-saving cancer research across the North West.

Among those taking part was North West Cancer Research-funded PhD researcher at the University of Liverpool, Owen McGreevy, who completed the 50-mile route alongside his mum and dad.

Owen said:- "Taking part in the Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride was an unforgettable experience. Cycling with my parents while raising money for a charity that has supported my research made the day incredibly meaningful. Like so many families, ours has been affected by cancer, so it was a privilege to play a small part in helping fund research that could improve outcomes for patients across our region. Seeing so many people come together for the same cause was truly inspiring."

Dedicated to tackling cancer across the Region, North West Cancer Research is an independent charity that funds vital research, improves patient care and supports the next generation of scientists working to make breakthroughs in cancer treatment.

Alastair Richards, CEO at North West Cancer Research, said:- "We are absolutely thrilled with the success of this year's Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride. Raising £93,000 is an incredible achievement and reflects the generosity and dedication of everyone who took part, volunteered, donated and supported the event. It has been fantastic to see the event continue to grow following its return last year. The Liverpool Chester Liverpool Bike Ride means so much to communities across the region, and every pound raised will help us continue funding pioneering cancer research and education here in the North West. A huge thank you to every rider, volunteer, sponsor and supporter who helped make this year's event such a success. We can't wait to welcome everyone back again next year."
