A new stop sign is to be erected by Sefton Council on Fleetwood Road at the junction with Hesketh Road after action by Cambridge Ward Lib Dems.

Councillor Pat Keith, said:- “We have had a series of complaints from residents and Hesketh Golf Club about speeding traffic on Fleetwood Road. Recently there have been 2 traffic collisions when cars misjudged the junction between Fleetwood Road and Hesketh Road and ended up crashing onto the golf course. It was only by good luck nobody was seriously injured.” 

Councillor Pat Keith and her colleagues Councillor Mike Sammon and Councillor Leo Evans have spoken to  Hesketh Golf Club and Sefton’s Highways Department and pointed out that the give way sign was being blocked by trees and that the signage was generally poor.

As a result the Highways Department have confirmed they are installing a new stop sign to replace the give way sign at the junction.

Councillor Leo Evans commented:- “This will be a larger sign and now that the foliage has been cut back it will be more visible. We hope this will make the road safer for people in the area, providing people drive sensibly and take notice of the new signage.”

Councillor Mike Sammon added:- “We are grateful to everyone who took the time to raise this issue with us, particularly Hesketh Golf Club. It shows that when residents work with their local councillors, problems can be addressed”.
