RESIDENTS of Speke are set to come together this weekend to launch SpekeFest25, a free, family-friendly event celebrating the community, diversity, and culture.

The event will run from 12pm to 6pm at Speke Adventure Playground and the Lifestyles Austin Rawlinson Car Park this Saturday, 30 August 2025.

Organised by Liverpool City Council, Speke Adventure Playground, and South Liverpool Homes, SpekeFest25 was created to strengthen community ties, promote inclusion, and showcase the positive work happening across the area.

The day will feature live entertainment from local bands and performers, a free funfair for all ages, and complimentary meals provided by the Rapid Relief Team.

A range of community organisations will also be present to offer information and support, including the South Liverpool Domestic Violence Service and the Anthony Walker Foundation.

Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins, Cabinet Member for Communities, Neighbourhoods and Streetscene said:- “SpekeFest25 gives residents a brilliant chance to celebrate everything that’s great about Speke’s community spirit, as well as its diversity. It is a great opportunity to recognise the positive changes we can make in the south of the City and beyond by working together. Events like this help build stronger connections between neighbours and create a more inclusive environment for everyone.”

Anna Bishop, Chief Executive of South Liverpool Homes said:- "SpekeFest is a wonderful reflection of the partnership approach that makes our community so special. By working closely with Liverpool City Council and Speke Adventure Playground, we’re able to create a truly welcoming event that celebrates everything about Speke. From live music and performances to the funfair and family activities, there’s something here for everyone. Speke is a place where everyone belongs, and this weekend will showcase just how inclusive and inspiring our neighbourhood is.”

The event marks 50 years of Speke Adventure Playground. Since opening in 1975, the playground has served as a vital hub for children and families, providing free play and organised activities to support early years, growth and development.

Recently, the Council held an event in partnership with South Liverpool Homes and involving more than 20 organisations that actively support local residents. With speakers including Maria Eagle, MP for Liverpool Garston, the meeting brought together pillars of the local community to explore how they could work together on initiatives like SpekeFest25.

Kimberley Preston, Centre Manager at Speke Adventure Playground said:- "We are incredibly proud to be celebrating 50 years of Speke Adventure Playground at SpekeFest25. This milestone is not just about our history, but about the amazing community that has supported us every step of the way. By working alongside our partners, SpekeFest is the perfect way to honour that legacy while also looking ahead to the future – celebrating the strength, creativity and inclusivity that make Speke such a special place to call home."
