Sandra Alonso Interview Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 2025
THE Liverpool International Tennis Tournament has returned in spectacular form this year, running from:- Thursday, 19 June 2025 to Saturday, 21 June 2025, and showcasing thrilling grass court action from some of the world’s most talented ATP and WTA players. Organised by Northern Vision, the event is a cornerstone of the pre-Wimbledon calendar, offering players vital experience on grass surfaces just days before the world’s most prestigious tennis tournament begins.
But the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament is more than just a warm up for Wimbledon. It also provides a rare platform for rising stars from around the globe, offering them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to test their skills against top tier talent. By sharing the court with elite athletes, young players gain invaluable insights into the demands of professional tennis an experience that has helped launch several careers into international prominence. This is our video interview with 1 such rising talent:- Sandra Alonso, who is a 23 year old tennis player, from Spain. Ranked No. 823 in the ITF singles standings as of:- 29 July 2024, Alonso made her grass court debut in Liverpool at this year's event, just after we filmed this video. In an exclusive interview with us, she described the experience as:- "completely different, but exciting," noting the unique challenges of playing on grass a surface within a tournament. Just to add,:- "grass tennis" was originally known as:- "lawn tennis" and is the same thing. "The ball behaves so differently on grass. It's slower and bounces higher, so it changes your whole rhythm," Alonso explained:- "But it's an amazing learning experience. I feel like I've improved so much just in a few days." If you are unaware of the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, while Liverpool may not have the same global renown as Wimbledon, it boasts an impressively deep connection to tennis history. This yearly tournament is held on the grounds of the Liverpool Cricket Club, a site steeped in tradition and sporting legacy. Established in 1807, the club hosted its very 1st lawn tennis tournament in 1882, making it 1 of the earliest venues for competitive grass court tennis within the UK. The modern Liverpool International is staged on the very spot where the original Liverpool Cricket Club Lawn Tennis Tournament was held; an event whose 1st men's singles title was claimed by Richard Taswell Richardson in June 1881. This makes the venue not just a place for emerging stars, but a living tribute to the roots of the sport itself!
