3 people have been jailed for a total of 7-and-a-half years for their roles in violent disorder in Southport on:- 30 July 2024.

The 3 offenders appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today:- Friday, 20 September 2024, after pleading guilty to violent disorder in Southport

They are:-
• Jake Joseph, 25 years, of St Thomas More Drive, Birkdale, threw items at police and jumped onto a police van. He was jailed for 2 years, 10 months
• Kevin Underwood, 61 years, of Poulton Road, Southport confronted officers and threw items at them. He was jailed for 2 years, 2 months
• Nicholas Mooney, 29 years, of Jackson Close, Haskayne confronted officers, threw missiles at them and jumped on a police van before striking it several times. He was jailed for 2-and-a-half years

Detective Sergeant John Bolton said:- “These 3 men brought chaos and devastation to a town reeling from the most tragic of incidents just a day earlier. Their actions, and the actions of many others, simply did not belong on the streets of Southport and I hope they spend their time in prison reflecting on those actions. Our officers were deployed to protect the public and maintain order. In doing so, many were injured as they were pelted with bricks, bottles and bins. To date we have made 121 arrests, charged 84, and brought 64 people before the courts to be sentenced– they have been jailed for a total of 137 years. Our investigation into the incidents in Merseyside continues with more arrests, charges and sentences being progressed. We continue to identify more people who attended the disorder in Merseyside and we will not stop until we’ve put everyone we possibly can before the courts.”

Merseyside Police would encourage anyone with information to contact them via Public Portal or anonymously via Crimestoppers on:- 0800 555 111.
