Hugh Baird College Students Achieve Excellent Results in Technical and Vocational Courses

STUDENTS studying technical and vocational qualifications within Hugh Baird College's industry-based subject areas are celebrating their outstanding results on:- Thursday, 25 August 2024.

The students, based at the College's Bootle campus, are now celebrating having completed their studies and are looking forward to their next steps, be that a career in their chosen industry, an apprenticeship or university.

The College's T-level pass rate was an impressive 96%, which is well above 2023's national average of 90.5%. Students achieved 100% pass rates in Childcare, Health, Healthcare Science, Engineering, Art and Design, Beauty Therapy, Motor Vehicle, Electrical Installation and Access to Higher Education courses.

This summer marks the third cohort of T-level students completing their courses and receiving results. T-levels are two-year courses that a young person can take following GCSEs. They are broadly equivalent in size to 3 A levels and accrue UCAS points. T-levels were developed in collaboration with employers to ensure students will be equipped with the skills they need. They offer a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on the job' experience with at least 45 days spent on an industry placement with an employer.

Rachael Hennigan, Principal and Chief Executive of Hugh Baird College, said:- "I am incredibly proud of our students' outstanding results. These achievements reflect our unwavering dedication providing our students with the best technical and vocational education possible, ensuring our students are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and behaviors necessary to thrive in their chosen careers. We celebrate their success and eagerly anticipate seeing them excel as they embark on their professional journeys."

Gerrard White, Professional Construction and the Built Environment Level 3 student from Walton, who gained Distinction Distinction*, said:- "I'm so happy with my results from my course. The skills and experience I've gained have built a solid foundation for my career in the industry. I am excited to start my Degree Apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying at SAL Construction Ltd.”

Ellie Edwards, T-level - Education and Childcare student, who gained a Distinction, said:- "The support and guidance I received at college made all the difference, and now I feel ready to take on university! I'm excited to begin my next chapter at Liverpool Hope University, where I'll be studying Primary School Teaching."

Hannah Keown, gained a Distinction in her recent T-level Digital Design Production and Development results, she said:- "I'm really proud of my results. The hands-on experience and knowledge I've gained have set me up perfectly for a future in the tech industry. I am looking forward to starting my degree in Cyber Security at Edge Hill University.”

Ash McGarry, Level 3 Art and Design, who gained a Distinction* Distinction*, Distinction said:-
"I am so proud of myself for achieving these results. I'm excited to begin my next chapter at Teesside University, where I'll be studying Comic Art. Thank you to all of the staff for helping me achieve my next step."

Ibitoye Anuoluwapoa, a Level 3 Engineering student who gained a Distinction, said:- "I'm extremely happy with my results and because of them I've now secured a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Engineering with Northern Rail.”

Other achievements include:- Charlie Ford, a Level 3 Health and Social Care student, who achieved an A, Mia Nield, an Art and Design Level 3 student, who achieved Distinction, Distinction, Distinction, Matthew Jenkins, an Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Level 3 student, who achieved a Distinction and Ethan Hughes, Construction and the Built Environment level 3 student, who achieved Distinction*.
