THE North West’s water company has joined with engineering specialist Barhale to make a donation to a local Wirral food bank this Christmas.

United Utilities has been working nearby on Wheatfield Close in Moreton to construct an underground storm tank designed to hold excess rainwater in periods of heavy rainfall, reducing the number of times the overflow operates in the area and ultimately improve water quality in the nearby watercourse. The project started in September 2025, and is due to complete by summer 2026.

Sandbrook Community Centre kindly hosted the the public drop-in session earlier in August prior to work starting on site, with an opportunity for locals to learn more about the scheme and benefits of the project.

The project forms part of United Utilities’ wider commitment to the largest investment in water and wastewater infrastructure in a century, with more than £13 billion being spent over the next 5 years to enhance rivers, lakes, and bathing waters across the North West.

The team at United Utilities made a cash donation of £150 to the community centre food bank, with Barhale matching the monetary donation in food items.

Jordan Crook, Third Party Coordinator at United Utilities said:- “The community have been incredibly understanding of our ongoing work behind Wheatfield Close to install the underground storm tank, and it’s important that where we can, we give back to those who need it most. We’re grateful to Moira and the team at Sandbrook Community Centre who do so much to support locals all year round, and we wish residents a very Merry Christmas.”
