Merseyrail Announces Matchday Travel Plans for Historic Double Header at Hill Dickinson Stadium
MERSEYRAIL is working alongside Everton FC, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, and Liverpool City Council in supporting the opening of Everton Football Club’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium. The City Region operator has now confirmed the rail services that will be in place for the 3rd and final test event on:- Saturday, 9 August 2025.
Sandhills station, the closest Merseyrail station to the new stadium, will serve as the main stop for fans travelling by train. To help manage matchday crowds, a new 2nd entrance and pedestrian footbridge is currently under construction at Sandhills and will be completed in time for the test event. To accommodate the expected increase in customer numbers, a:- 15 minute service will run on the:- Southport, Ormskirk, Hunts Cross, and Headbolt Lane lines before and after the event, with all available:- 4 and 8 car trains in operation. To ensure a reliable and efficient service, some temporary changes will be in effect on the:- Southport line. Between:- 10 am and 20:00, Liverpool bound services will arrive and depart at different times to those of the usual timetable. Customers are encouraged to use the Merseyrail website journey planner to check updated train times before travelling. For fans seeking alternative routes:- Moorfields and Bank Hall Stations are both within a 27 minute walk of the stadium and offer excellent options to avoid congestion at:- Sandhills. The Wirral line will operate a normal timetable throughout the day. Fans travelling from the Wirral can alight at:- Moorfields and board any:- Headbolt Lane, Southport, or Ormskirk line service to reach Sandhills. Alternatively, it’s a 25 minute walk to the Stadium via the:- Old Hall Street exit, at:- Moorfields. After the event, additional services will support the Wirral line’s usual 30 minute frequency from 19:30 onwards. These services are also listed in the Merseyrail journey planner. Neil Grabham, Managing Director at Merseyrail, said:- "As supporters adjust to new matchday travel routines, Merseyrail remains committed to doing everything possible to keep services running smoothly and make journeys to and from Hill Dickinson Stadium as easy as possible. We’ll be providing a 15 minute service before and after the event, and our dedicated team will be out on the network helping customers get to where they need to be. Like other major Football Stadiums across the UK, Sandhills Station will be extremely busy on matchdays. Customers can help us, to help them, by planning ahead, allowing extra time for journeys, and considering alternative routes in case of unexpected disruption." COMMENTS (0)
