Millions See Sefton Council’s Cleaner Greener Campaign on National TV

SEFTON Council’s work to tackle fly-tipping have been showcased on major national broadcasters including BBC Breakfast, ITV News, and Good Morning Britain, reaching millions of viewers across the UK.

The Council’s approach to crack down on fly-tipping with enforcement and prevention has taken centre stage in the national Fight Fly-Tipping Fortnight campaign, led by Keep Britain Tidy.

As part of the campaign, Cllr Peter Harvey, Cabinet Member for Street Scene and Cleansing, Peter Moore, Assistant Director for Place, joined our Waste Management and Street Cleansing crews on the ground, who clear fly-tipping every day.

The TV coverage highlighted the significant cost of fly-tipping in Sefton. Last year alone, over 3,500 incidents of fly-tipping were dealt with, costing Council Tax payers over £366,000. These are funds that could otherwise be invested in vital community services such as parks and playgrounds.

Fight Fly-Tipping Fortnight shines a national spotlight on the issue of illegal waste disposal and the unscrupulous ‘white van’ operators who illegally dump waste.

This national recognition forms part of Sefton’s broader commitment to building a cleaner, greener Borough, with fly-tipping prevention at the heart of its environmental campaign.
