SEFTON Council has announced a new partnership — “Sefton Home 2030” — with The Sovini Group to deliver up to 1,000 new social and affordable homes by 2030.

Council-owned sites including former schools and community land across Bootle, Netherton, Southport, Seaforth and Formby will be developed alongside Sovini’s pipeline. The 1st phase aims to begin up to 400 homes across 8 locations, while Sovini will deliver a further 600 through its own end-to-end supply chain.

The partnership emphasises not only housing delivery but also local benefits:- jobs, training and construction apprenticeships with partners like Hugh Baird College and Southport College; environmental sustainability through zero waste and EV-charging infrastructure; and strong community impact in terms of improved neighbourhoods and reducing reliance on temporary accommodation.

Councillor Marion Atkinson, Leader of Sefton Council, said:- “This partnership focus will be on high-quality, truly affordable homes and homes for social rent. But it is about more than just building homes - it’s about building futures for people across Sefton. There is a huge need for social and affordable housing in Sefton and by addressing that problem it will get people out of temporary accommodation and into safe, healthy homes. That will improve their quality of life and at the same time, it will help reduce the costs to the Council for expensive temporary accommodation. We are committed to ensuring that every development delivers real value for our residents by creating jobs and training opportunities for local people, as well as social and affordable housing.”

Highlighting this local synergy, Roy Williams, Chief Executive of The Sovini Group said:- "We’re proud to work alongside Sefton Council to deliver homes through the Group’s end-to-end supply chain. Collaboratively we can ensure value for money, local opportunities, and the sustainability of Sefton. The Sovini Group’s unique model which provides a robust housing solution, enables us to reinvest all commercial profits throughout the partnership back in Sefton – focusing on Sefton Council’s priorities and the development of more affordable homes locally.”

Key benefits of the partnership include:-

  • Housing - increased supply of social and affordable homes, mixed tenure developments, including family homes and targeted support for those in temporary accommodation or with unmet housing needs.
  • Community Impact - revitalisation of neighbourhoods, improved community cohesion, and enhancements to public spaces and safety.
  • Economic Growth - creation of new of jobs for local people through Sefton@Work and a benefit to the local supply chain.
  • Training & Education - apprenticeships, internships, and construction skills training with local partners, including Hugh Baird College and Southport College.

Environmental Sustainability – 100% recycled waste, reduction in carbon emissions and installation of electric vehicle charging points.
